Cartoons Underground
Southeast Asia’s largest independent animation festival is back for one electrifying night! Join us for the Golden Durian Awards, where you’ll meet brilliant directors and vote for your favorite films!
With 1,500 submissions from over 90 countries, we’ve curated an exciting lineup of 14 stunning animated shorts from Italy, the US, China, Singapore, and more! This year, we’re thrilled to highlight the incredible work of Singaporean student filmmakers and artists of Asian heritage with 2 International Programmes and 1 Singapore Student Programme.
Expect bold themes—sex positivity, mental health, comedy, horror, and more—explored through dynamic 2D, 3D, stop-motion animation and the latest animation technology.
Premiering films like “She and Her Good Vibrations” by Olivia Griselda and Sarah Cheok, developed in our Story Development Lab about a woman’s sexual discovery; Dahee Jeong’s “Society of Clothes,” a poignant tale where everyone exists only as clothes; Greg McLeod’s “Mee and Burd,” a charmingly philosophical exploration of filmmaking; and Animation Youtube titan, Patrick Smith’s “Broken,” showcasing his signature style while delving into themes of good and evil.
In our Singapore Student category, catch stand films like “Neh Neh Pok” from NTU, which tackles body positivity, and “The Seamstress’ Secret,” a dialogue-less short that evokes deep emotions as well as Ning Xuan Tan’s “I Think I’m Going to Die,” a striking journey utilizing diverse animation techniques.
Grab your popcorn, connect with creators, and don’t miss this exclusive one-night-only event!
